for the holidays
Dear Home,
For me, it was love at first sight. You were
gorgeous: 10-foot ceilings, spanking-new
appliances, windows offering expansive views.
But your feelings weren’t so clear — until
Covid-19 hit.
Early into the shutdown, I’d sleep late, grab
coffee and log onto my computer moments before
my shift. Desolation began to envelop me.
You were having none of that.
First, your eastern windows bathed me in tangerine
and magenta sunrises, showing me the meditative
power of early morning solitude. Then, a nook
beckoned, inviting me to set up a home office.
Now, it’s my turn. I’m imagining a holiday season
blinged out with Christmas lights, some lofty
plants, a new rug. What do you say? It’s the least
I can do after the warmth and cheer you brought
me during these long months.
We’re in this together,
T BRAND
