in the design world? Between May 30 and June 5, the
capital will set the scene for more than one hundred design
exhibitions and events.Fl. H.

xploring the theme of R/Evolution, this year’s D’Days
brings you up to speed with the latest design developments
in the fields of science, digital technology and ecology. An
opportunity for designers, publishers, specialist schools,
organizations, foundations and museums to work together
on ground-breaking ventures, D’Days is a creative hurricane! What’s
more, the initiative isn’t just for established names: the Audi Talents
Awards, the Emile Hermès Prize and Design Parade – the final heat
of the Villa Noailles international competition, whose winners will
get to soak up the limelight at the Galeries Lafayette – put young
designers on the map too.
D’Days 2016 brings together 80 participant across four districts

  • Palais-Royal, Bac/Saint-Germain, Marais/République/Bastille
and Pantin/Ourcq – and some one hundred events. And to add an
exotic flavor, this year’s country of honor, Taiwan, will be revealing
its centuries-old expertise in paper and bamboo.
If you’re searching for a visual, forward-thinking narrative of the
future of design, look no further than the scenography created by
stores and galleries for their artists on the theme “Once
upon a time”. The fun Drone R/Evolution
exhibition at civil drone pioneer Parrot
is a must! Also worth a peak is the
    display by Philippe Nigro, exploring
the applications and metamorphoses of linen on place
des Vosges from May 26 to June 5. New this year are five co-pro-
ductions and collaborative itineraries conceived and produced with
designers, institutions, foundations, companies and users. Luminor,

with Panerai, offers a snapshot of the visionary work on light by
Dutch designer Daan Roosegaarde at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.
The Sound Design Party at the Gaîté Lyrique, in partnership with
the Audi Talents Awards, explores the weighty role played by sound
in our everyday lives. Design Fiction will present the futurist spec-
ulations of students from the ECV at Saint-Germain-des-Prés metro
station, with the support of the RATP. “Péri’Fabrique”, at the Musée
des Arts Décoratifs, with the Fondation Bettencourt Schueller and
Est Ensemble, will explore the growing osmosis that mutually informs
the work of artisans and designers. Lastly, “Le Corps du Canal” (with
Est Ensemble) provides a chance to explore D’Days outdoors: jointly
produced by designers from the Unqui studio and on-the-spot sports
enthusiasts, it brings physical exercise back into the public domain
by placing adapted installations and equipment along the canal.
The Jardins Jardin exhibition and sale, now part of D’Days, will
take up its spring residence in the Jardin des Tuileries. Lastly, the
D’Days “green itinerary” – with Off de l’Art and Design Végétal –
digs into an emerging trend that’s taking root in our objects and fur-
niture: plant design. Art galleries and showrooms in Saint-Germain-
des-Prés will present organic works of art, while the Bel Ami and
Montalembert hotels, and the VIA gallery (May 30 to June 15) as
well as Les Docks-Cité de la Mode et du Design give pride of place
to hybrid designs by great names in plant design. Proof that design
can be grafted anywhere and onto anything.■
