“My favorite part of the design process is ak

There’s always something so exciting about it!”

them a modern or updated take. I love antique
quilts and am inspired by them and the makers
who pieced them from scraps and feed sacks.
Because quilting goes back generations in my
family, I find myself thinking of my ancestors and
wondering about the special quilts they made.

JB: Who are you currently “sew inspired” by?
CR: My mom. She has been designing patterns
for her company, Cotton Way, for nearly 30 years,
designing fabric for more than 11 years, and she
still makes some of my very favorite quilts. She
has quilted through it all, the good and the bad,
and never ceases to inspire me.

JB: I’m sure that from time to time you have
found yourself in a creative rut. When that
happens, how do you get yourself out of it?
CR: I’ve found that my quilting friends usually
help me out of any rut. While it isn’t always
possible to get together to sew, they are always
making and sharing beautiful things, which
inspires me to just get started. Once I start sewing
again, I can’t remember why I ever stopped!

JB: If you weren’t a quilt and fabric designer,
what do you think your career would be?
CR: I went to school for architectural design, and
I still dream of designing homes. Hopefully I can
design my own home someday. I love looking
at real estate listings and house plans online.
Perhaps it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that
I love to make house quilts. They combine two of
my favorite things.

JB: Can you share what you're working on
currently?
CR: During a quilt retreat this spring I started
a Swoon quilt made with our Bonnie & Camille
Wovens collection, a Summerville quilt from my
scraps, and some Nine-Patches for a big scrappy
quilt. Before Quilt Market, I was busy designing
quilts using our newest fabric collection.

JB: Readers know you design amazing quilts
and fabric lines. What’s one of your hidden
talents?
CR: I love to waterski and have since I was a little
girl. Other than that, I am entirely uncoordinated
and not athletic in the slightest. My three sons
will back me up on this one.

JB: What is something about you that people
might be surprised to learn?
CR: I recently got a cat. His name is Cosmo, and
I am head over heels for the little guy! I did not
see this coming.
