- Referring to Diagram 3, lay out
all of triangle 1 in two sections. Sew
together triangles in sections; join
sections to make a block center.
Referring to Diagram 4, add four
solid tan triangles to make Block 1. The
block should be 9^1 ⁄ 2 " square including
seam allowances. - Using all of triangle 2, repeat Step 4
to make Block 2 (Diagram 5). - Repeat steps 1–5 to make seven total
of Block 1 and five total of Block 2. (You
will have 16 of triangle 2 left over).
ASSEMBLE BLOCK 3
Block 3 is composed of triangles cut
in opposing orientations from a single
strip set. Because the strip colors and
strip widths are planned, the result is
identical triangles and identical blocks.
- Referring to Diagram 6 for
examples, select two to four assorted
solid brights and/or remaining solid
cream to create a seven-strip strip set.
Choose one solid to be in the center of
the strip set; designate it solid No. 1.
Determine a pattern for the remaining
solids that will be identical on either
side of the center strip. Designate the
solid adjacent to the center strip solid
No. 2. The next solid should be No. 3
and the last solid should be No. 4. - Cut solid No. 1 into a 25"-long strip
that is at least 1" wide but not more
than 2" wide. From each solid Nos. 2—4,
cut two 25"-long strips in identical
widths (1"—2"). The total of the widths
(without^1 ⁄ 4 " seam allowances) of the
seven strips should be at least 4^1 ⁄ 2 ". - Sew together Step 2 strips in
planned order to make a strip set
(Diagram 7). If necessary, trim strip
set, measuring 2^1 ⁄ 2 " from the middle of
the center strip (solid No. 1), to 5" wide
including seam allowances. - Referring to Diagram 8, place
template A atop strip set in orientation
No. 1. Cut along template edges to
make triangle 1. Rotate template
180° to orientation No. 2; cut along
template edge to make triangle 2.
Triangles 1 and 2 will be identical.
Continue in the same manner to cut
four of triangle 1 and four of triangle 2
for eight matching triangles total.
- Referring to Diagram 9, lay out the
triangles in two sections. Sew together
triangles in sections; join sections
to make a block center. Referring
to Diagram 10, add four solid tan
triangles to make Block 3. The block
should be 9^1 ⁄ 2 " square including seam
allowances. - Repeat steps 1–5 to make 20 total of
Block 3.
ASSEMBLE QUILT TOP
- Sew together a solid aqua B piece
and a solid tan triangle to make a
setting triangle (Diagram 11). Repeat
to make 14 setting triangles total.
