5. Trim quilt top^1 ∕ 2 " beyond corners
   of sashing squares. The setting and
   corner triangles were assembled and
   cut larger than necessary to allow the
   pieced sections to “float” slightly along
   the quilt top edges.

FINISH QUILT

1. Layer quilt top, batting, and backing;
   baste. (For details, see Complete Quilt,
   page 103.)
   2. Quilt as desired. Susan Rogers
   machine-quilted a spiral design across
   the quilt top (Quilting Diagram).
   3. Bind with multicolor diagonal
   stripe binding strips. (For details, see
   Complete Quilt.)

Do you want the look of pieced umbrellas

without the work? Choose striped fabric, as

quilt tester Diane Tomlinson did in designing

a 12^1 ∕ 2 × 331 ∕ 2 " Made in the Shade table runner.

With the stripe running horizontally, cut 5"-wide

strips. Use the Kaleido-Ruler, right, or a Pattern A

template to cut eight triangles for each block. If

you want the stripes to match, as above, cut 16

triangles and use every other one.
