CUT FABRICS

Cut pieces in the following order.

From assorted light prints, cut:
▫ 200—2^7 ⁄ 8 " squares
▫ 800—2^1 ⁄ 2 " squares
▫ 160—2^1 ⁄ 2 " squares, cutting each in
half diagonally for 320 triangles
total
From assorted dark prints, cut:
▫ 200—2^7 ⁄ 8 " squares
▫ 800—2^1 ⁄ 2 " squares
▫ 160—2^1 ⁄ 2 " squares, cutting each in
half diagonally for 320 triangles
total
From red print, cut:
▫ 10—2^1 ⁄ 2 ×42" binding strips

ASSEMBLE STAR POINT UNITS
Measurements include^1 ⁄ 4 " seam
allowances. Sew with right sides
together unless otherwise stated.
Press seams in directions
indicated by arrows on diagrams.
If no direction is specified, press
seam toward darker fabric.
When assembling star point units,
slightly vary triangle placement to
create the uneven star points that give
the quilt whimsy. While triangle angles
can vary, the triangles must cover the
corners when pressed open.

  1. Referring to Diagram 1 for
placement, layer a light print triangle
    atop one corner of a dark print 2^1 ⁄ 2 "
    square. Sew a scant^1 ⁄ 4 " from long
edge of triangle. Press open attached
triangle. Repeat to add a second
    triangle to an adjacent corner.

  2. Trim pieced unit to 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square
to make a light star point unit
    (Diagram 2).

  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to make 160
    light star point units total.

Mark your measurement (2^1 ⁄ 2 "
or 2^7 ⁄ 8 ") from the ruler's edge
with washi tape to quickly
and easily see your lines. In
your rotary cutter try the Olfa
Endurance Blade. It will cut
twice as much fabric as a
standard blade before it starts
to dull. $12.99 for blade; olfa.com

Use a die-cutting machine
to cut multiple squares at
one time. The AccuQuilt GO!
Square 2^1 ⁄ 2 " Multiples Die can
cut nine squares per layer from
up to six layers of fabric for as
many as 54 squares at once.

Mix precut mini (2^1 ⁄ 2 ") charm
squares with fabrics in your
stash to add variety and save
