  1. Lay out five triangle-squares,
    two light star point units, two dark
    star point units, eight assorted dark


print 2^1 ∕ 2 " squares, and eight assorted
light print 2^1 ∕ 2 " squares in five rows
(Diagram 5; note orientation of
triangle-squares and star point
units). Sew together pieces in rows.
Join rows to make a block. The block
should be 10^1 ∕ 2 " square including
seam allowances. Repeat to make 80
blocks total.

ASSEMBLE QUILT TOP



  1. Referring to Quilt Assembly
    Diagram, lay out blocks in 10 rows,
    orienting blocks as shown. Sew
    together blocks in rows. Press seams
    in one direction, alternating direction
    with each row.

  2. Join rows to complete quilt top.
    Press seams in one direction.


FINISH QUILT



  1. Layer quilt top, batting, and backing;
    baste. (For details, see Complete Quilt,
    page 103.)

  2. Quilt as desired. Carla Berst
    machine-quilted continuous curve
    orange peels in the squares and
    outline-quilted each star. She also
    quilted large loops within dark areas
    of blocks (Quilting Diagram).

  3. Bind with red print binding strips.
