Quilt tester Monique Jacobs
stayed with the fabric squares
in Botanicals but used low-
contrast baby prints and left off
the embroidery and appliqué to
create a child’s play mat. Without
embellishments and in a smaller
size, the 29^1 ∕ 2 "-square project,
including a 3"-wide border, would
make a quick-to-fi nish gift.
FABRICS are from the Welcome Baby
collection by Sara Morgan for P&B
Textiles (pbtex.com).

2. Quilt as desired. Rebecca Silbaugh
of Ruby Blue Quilting Studio machine-
quilted an echoing honeycomb pattern
in the background of blocks A–I
(Quilting Diagram). In blocks J
and K, she quilted parallel lines in the
background squares, echo-quilted
the embroidered leaf appliqués, and
quilted swirls in the unembroidered
leaves.
3. Bind with black tone-on-tone
binding strips. (For details, see
Complete Quilt.)
