To make arrowhead stitches, bring
needle up at A (Arrowhead Stitch

it up at C. Insert needle at D, bring it
up at E, push it down at F, and bring
it up at G. At this point, reverse stitch

at K, and push it down at L. You will
start to see arrows forming after you
reverse your stitching direction.

BACKSTITCH

To backstitch, pull needle up at A
(Backstitch Diagram). Insert it back
into fabric at B, bring it up at C, and
push it down at D. Continue in the
same manner to make the desired
number of backstitches.

BLANKET STITCH

To blanket-stitch, pull needle up at
A (Blanket Stitch Diagram). Form a
reverse L shape with floss. Holding
angle of L shape in place with your
thumb, push needle down at B

and come up at C to secure stitch.
Continue in the same manner to
make the desired number of blanket
stitches.

BUTTONHOLE STITCH

Use an erasable marker to draw an
outline for the stitches (Buttonhole

stitches, keep needle vertical and
work from left to right. Bring needle
up at A and push it down at B. Bring
needle up at C and loop thread on
needle to create a knot on top of loop.
Continue in the same manner, making
your stitches close together, to make
the desired number of buttonhole
stitches. For buttonhole stitching on
Block A, page 55, elongate stitches to
fill the outline of ladybug heads.

CHAIN STITCH

(Chain Stitch Diagram); form a U
shape with floss. Holding the U shape
in place with your thumb, push
needle down at B, about^1 ⁄ 16 " from A,

E ro r t t a ra s

and come up at C to secure stitch.
Continue in the same manner to make
the desired number of chain stitches.

DOUBLE FEATHERSTITCH

To make double featherstitches, bring
needle up at A (Double Featherstitch
Diagram); form a V shape with floss.
Holding the angle in place with your
thumb, push needle down at B, about

(^3) ⁄ 16 " to right of A. Come up at C, about
(^1) ⁄ 4 " below A, to secure stitch. For the
next stitch, form a V shape with floss,
insert needle at D (about^3 ⁄ 16 " to right
of C), and bring it out at E to secure
stitch. For the next stitch, form a
V shape with floss, insert needle at

the next stitch, move to the left and
continue in the same manner to
