  1. Layer a marked light print 3^7 ∕ 8 "
    square atop a dark print 3^7 ∕ 8 " square.
    Sew together with two seams, stitching
    a scant^1 ∕ 4 " on each side of marked
    line (Diagram 6). Cut pair apart on
    drawn line; press open to make two
    triangle-squares. Each triangle-square
    should be 3^1 ∕ 2 " square including seam
    allowances. Repeat to make four
    triangle-squares total.

  2. Lay out center unit, side units,
    and triangle-squares in three rows
    (Diagram 7). Sew together pieces in
    rows. Join rows to make Block A. The
    block should be 15^1 ∕ 2 " square including
    seam allowances.


ASSEMBLE B BLOCKS


From remaining red print, cut:
▫ 3—2 ×21" strips
From gold print, cut:
▫ 3—2 ×21" strips
From dark brown floral, cut:
▫ 24—1^1 ∕ 8 × 4 3 ∕ 4 " strips
▫ 24—1^1 ∕ 8 × 3 1 ∕ 2 " strips
From remaining indigo print, cut:
▫ 24—4^1 ∕ 4 " squares, cut in half
diagonally to make 48 triangles

(^1) ∕ 4 " on each side of drawn line. Cut
apart on drawn line; press open light
print triangles to make two triangle
segments.



  1. Referring to Diagram 4, align a
    marked light print 2^3 ∕ 8 " square with
    medium or dark print corner of a
    triangle segment. Sew together with
    two seams, stitching a scant^1 ∕ 4 " on
    each side of drawn line. Cut apart
    on drawn line. Press open light print
    triangles to make two Flying Geese
    units. Each unit should be 2 × 3 1 ∕ 2 "
    including seam allowances. Repeat
    with remaining triangle segment to
    make four Flying Geese units total.

  2. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to make 12
    Flying Geese units total.

  3. Referring to Diagram 5, sew
    together three Flying Geese units in a
    row. Add a light print 2 × 9 1 ∕ 2 " strip to
    make a side unit. Repeat to make four
    side units total.

  4. Sew together the assorted medium
    and dark print 2 ×16" strips to make a
    strip set. Cut strip set into six 2"-wide
    segments (Diagram 1).

  5. Referring to Diagram 2, lay out
    2"-wide segments, rotating every
    other one 180¡ so seams will nest. Sew
    segments together to make a center
    unit. The unit should be 9^1 ∕ 2 " square
    including seam allowances.

  6. Use a pencil to draw a diagonal line
    on wrong side of each light print 2^3 ∕ 8 "
    and 3^7 ∕ 8 " square.

  7. Referring to Diagram 3, align
    two marked light print 2^3 ∕ 8 " squares
    with opposite corners of a medium or
    dark print 4^1 ∕ 4 " square. Sew together
    with two seams, stitching a scant


When you begin a project, take the time
to wind multiple bobbins. You’ll have less
down time when you are sewing!
