Instead of piecing the Around the Corner Block A center
units, quilt tester Colleen Tauke fussy-cut 9^1 ∕ 2 " squares
from a large print. She used coordinating prints in
green, orange, and pink to create a fresh 35"-square wall
hanging that also could be a table topper.
FABRICS are from the Darling Meadow collection by Tanya Whelan

ASSEMBLE QUILT CENTER
- Referring to Quilt Assembly
Diagram, lay out A blocks, brown
stripe 2 × 15 1 ∕ 2 " sashing strips, and red
print 2" sashing squares in seven rows. - Sew together pieces in rows. Press
seams toward sashing strips. Join rows
to make quilt center; press seams
away from block rows. The quilt center
should be 51^1 ∕ 2 " square including
seam allowances.
ADD BORDER
- Referring to Quilt Assembly
Diagram, join two B blocks and one
indigo print 6^1 ∕ 2 × 39 1 ∕ 2 " strip to make
a short border strip. Press seams
away from blocks. The strip should be
6 1 ∕ 2 × 51 1 ∕ 2 " including seam allowances.
Repeat to make a matching short
border strip.
2. Sew together four B blocks and
one indigo print 6^1 ∕ 2 × 39 1 ∕ 2 " strip to
make a long border strip. Press seams
away from blocks. The strip should be
6 1 ∕ 2 × 63 1 ∕ 2 " including seam allowances.
Repeat to make a matching long
border strip.
3. Sew short border strips to opposite
edges of quilt center. Add long border
strips to remaining edges to complete
quilt top. Press seams toward border.
FINISH QUILT
- Layer quilt top, batting, and backing;
baste. (For details, see Complete Quilt,
page 103.) - Quilt as desired. Machine-quilter
