CUT FABRICS
Cut pieces in the order that follows.
From each of 10 assorted prints, cut:
▫ 8—3^3 ∕ 8 " squares
From white floral, cut:
▫ 5—7^1 ∕ 2 × 42" strips
▫ 20—6^1 ∕ 4 " squares
▫ 80—3" squares
▫ 18—2× 10 1 ∕ 2 " rectangles
▫ 4—2" squares
From solid white, cut:
▫ 60—2^3 ∕ 8 " squares
From red small check, cut:
▫ 60—2^3 ∕ 8 " squares
From navy print, cut:
▫ 10—2×42" strips
▫ 22—2× 31 ∕ 2 " rectangles
From aqua print, cut:
▫ 7—5×42" strips for outer border
From red floral, cut:
▫ 4—5" squares
From red diagonal check, cut:
▫ 8—2^1 ∕ 2 ×42" binding strips
ASSEMBLE FLYING
GEESE UNITS
Measurements include^1 ∕ 4 " seam
allowances. Sew with right sides
together unless otherwise stated.
Press seams in directions
indicated by arrows on diagrams.
If no direction is specified, press
seam toward darker fabric.
- Use a pencil to mark a diagonal line
on wrong side of four matching print
3 3 ∕ 8 " squares.
2. Referring to Diagram 1, align two
marked print squares with opposite
corners of a white floral 6^1 ∕ 4 " square.
Sew a scant^1 ∕ 4 " from drawn lines
on both sides of lines. Cut apart on
drawn lines to make two triangle units
(Diagram 2). Press triangle units open.
3. Referring to Diagram 3, align a
marked print square with white floral
corner of a triangle unit. Sew a scant
(^1) ∕ 4 " from each side of drawn line; cut
apart on drawn line (Diagram 4).
Press print triangles open to make two
Flying Geese units. Each unit should
be 5^1 ∕ 2 × 3" including seam allowances.
Repeat with remaining marked print
square and remaining triangle unit to
make four Flying Geese units total.
- Repeat steps 1–3 to make 80 Flying
Geese units total (20 sets of four
matching units).
FINISHED QUILT: 67^1 ∕ 2 × 801 ∕ 2 "
FINISHED BLOCK: 10" square
