center units (A–F). You will use 20. You
may increase or decrease the quantity
of each unit as desired as long as you

The following instructions result in
one Center Unit A. Repeat cutting and
assembly steps to make four A center
units total.From one assorted print, cut:
▫ 2—3" squares
From a second assorted print, cut:
▫ 2—3" squaresReferring to Diagram 5, lay out print
squares in pairs. Join pairs to make
Center Unit A. The unit should be 5^1 ⁄ 2 "
square including seam allowances.B UNITS
The following instructions result in
one Center Unit B. Repeat cutting and
assembly steps to make three B center
units total.From one assorted print, cut:
▫ 1—3× 5 1 ⁄ 2 " rectangle
From a second assorted print, cut:
▫ 1—3× 5 1 ⁄ 2 " rectangleReferring to Diagram 6, sew together
print 3× 5 1 ⁄ 2 " rectangles to make Center
Unit B. The unit should be 5^1 ⁄ 2 " square
including seam allowances.C UNITS

two C center units. Repeat cutting and

From a second assorted print, cut:
▫ 1—5^7 ⁄ 8 " square- Use a pencil to mark a diagonal
line on wrong side of the lighter print
5 7 ⁄ 8 " square. - Layer marked print square atop
unmarked print 5^7 ⁄ 8 " square. Sew
together with two seams, stitching
(^1) ⁄ 4 " on each side of marked line
(Diagram 7). Cut pair apart on drawn
line; press open to make two C center
units. Each unit should be 5^1 ⁄ 2 " square
including seam allowances.
D UNITS
The following instructions result in
one Center Unit D. Repeat cutting and
assembly steps to make four D center
units total.From one assorted print, cut:
▫ 2—2× 5 1 ⁄ 2 " rectangles
▫ 2—2× 2 1 ⁄ 2 " rectangles
From a second assorted print, cut:
▫ 1—2^1 ⁄ 2 " squareSew print 2× 2 1 ⁄ 2 " rectangles to
opposite edges of print 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square

rectangles to remaining edges to make
Center Unit D. The unit should be 5^1 ⁄ 2 "
