HOT S T

Apple has a habit of acting like it invented
things other phones have been able to
do for ages. Video calls had been around
long before FaceTime was a thing and
fingerprints had been unlocking phones
for ages when the iPhone 5S appeared.
Annoying, isn’t it? But when a new tech is
embraced by Apple, that’s usually a sign
that it’s about to go mainstream... and the
iPhone 12 Pro finally has 5G.
For some that would be enough, but there’s
also a new 6.1in Ceramic Shield display,
which Apple reckons is four times more
robust than before, and a speedy A14 Bionic
chip that’s claimed to make the 12 Pro up to
50 % faster than any other phone.
And that Pro moniker really starts to make
sense when you talk about the cameras.
There are three rear 12MP snappers – a
wide, an ultra-wide and a telephoto – but
it’s the DSLR-style sensor-shifting tech,
Lidar-powered autofocus and new
ProRAW photo format that’ll appeal to
serious shutterbugs. It can also shoot
Dolby Vision video in 4K HDR at 60fps,
so your footage will be good enough for
the big screen. Well, providing you’ve got
the skills to back up the kit.

giga than others
Apple’s not messing around
when it comes to storage. The
least you’ll get is 128GB, but
you can also opt for 256GB
or 512GB. Plenty of space
to fill with those fancy
4K videos.

Behind
blue iPhones
The design is strongly
reminiscent of the iPhone 5,
one of the best-looking
phones ever. You get a choice
of four finishes: silver,
graphite, gold and this
natty new blue.
