TICKETS If you pay a one-time fee of $20, you can purchase

reserve tickets for your local minor league baseball team for

only $4 a game. Regular tickets sell at the stadium for $6. Write

and solve an equation to find how many reserve tickets you

would need to buy to equal the cost of regular tickets. Let x

represent the number of tickets purchased.

20 + 4 x = 6 x Write the equation.

  20 = 2 x Simplify.

^202 = ^22 x Division Property of Equality

10 = x Simplify.

Check 20 + 4 (10) = 60, 6(10) = 60. 

So, ten reserve tickets would have to be purchased to equal the

cost of the regular tickets.

e. BASKETBALL Bill averages 10 points a game and has 110 points

for the season. Aaron averages 12 points a game and has

96 points for the season. Write and solve an equation to find

how many games it will take until they tie in points scored

if they continue at the same rate.
