Electron Configurations and

Radioactivity

Chemical reactions involve interactions between the electrons of atoms. To
understand how and why atoms react, we need to know something about
electron configuration—the arrangement of electrons in atoms. Radioactivity
involves changes that occur within an atom’s nucleus. In this chapter we will go
over electron orbitals, electron configurations, the stable octet, and radioactivity.
