Organic Reactions
You should be familiar with a handful of organic reactions, so study the reactions
below carefully.
Addition—In an addition reaction, a carbon-carbon double bond
is converted into a single bond, freeing each of the two carbons to
bond with another element. Also in an addition reaction, a triple
bond can be converted into a double bond.
Substitution—In a substitution reaction, one atom or group in a
compound is replaced with another atom or group. Chemically,
this very rarely happens (i.e., direct replacement of H).
