Division Rules

5-1

Yo u divide when you want to:
separate a set into share a set equally.
equal parts.
Cal has 12 pears. He puts Jo, Meg, and Cara share 12
4 pears into each bag. How pears equally. How many pears
many bags does he use? does each girl get?

Cal uses 3 bags. Each girl gets 4 pears.

Here are some rules that can help you
to divide correctly.

When the divisor is one, the quotient
is the same as the dividend.

When the divisor and the dividend are
the samenumber, the quotient is always one.

When the dividend is zero,
the quotient is zero.

The divisor can neverbe zero.
