Each of the three trigonometric ratios has a reciprocal. The reciprocals: cosecant (cosec), secant (sec) and
cotangent (cot), are defined as follows:
cosec=

sin
sec=
1
cos
cot=
1
tan
We can also define these reciprocals for any right-angled triangle:
cosec=
hypotenuse
opposite
sec=
hypotenuse
adjacent
cot=
adjacent
opposite
Note that:
sincosec= 1
cossec= 1
tancot= 1
