Whole Numbers
Naming Numbers
Our number system is called theHindu-Arabicsystem ordecimalsystem. It
consists of 10 symbols ordigits, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9, which are used
to make our numbers. Each digit in a number has aplace value. The place
value names are shown in Fig. 1-1.
