Institute,challengestheproposedbanonallivorytrade,bothinternational
anddomestic,bya consortiumof 10 countries.Godfreystatesthatthe
proposalwilllikelyincreasepoachingbecausepriceswillbehigher,
profitswillbegreaterandinterestin a forbiddenfruitwillbestronger.
PelhamJonesexpresseshisjustifiedconcernsaboutthefactthat
SouthAfricarefrainedfromsubmittinga proposaltoCITESCoP18to
legaliseinternationalcontrolledtradein rhinohorn,despitethefactthat
if Africanrhinorangestatestakeholdersareallowedtotradein rhino
horn,rhinowillbecomethemostprotectedandvaluableanimalin Africa.
Prof.PeetvanderMerweandDrWoudivonSolmsshareinsightson
a recentresearchstudyconductedon‘Land-useformsoftheprivate
wildlifeindustry:howdotheycompare?’.
