Wastemanagement
✔ Start composting! Many affordable hygienic
commercialcompostingunitsareavailable.
✔ Implement a strict, active recycling policy. Use
recycledproductsasfaraspossible.
✔ For bulk-reduction, invest in a compacting
machine.
✔ Donate unused food or equipment to the local
community – this is also part of community
upliftment.
✔ Solid waste must be stored in a scavenger-
proof facility (especially baboon and monkey
proof).
Guest room amenities, services and house-
keeping
✔ Exclusively use biodegradable amenities,
soaps and shampoo in guest rooms. This also
appliestoairfreshenersandinsectrepellents.
✔ Refillable soap, shower gel and shampoo
dispensers (ban single-use amenities in
plasticandsingle-usecontainers).
✔ Install coffee plungers with coffee and sugar
in suitable containers. Limit or avoid coffee,
sugar, sweeteners and, if possible, tea from
disposable sachets. Ban coffee in disposable
aluminiumpods.
✔ Institute a restaurant policy to use dispensers/
jars for sugar, jam and butter, and do away
with disposable single-use plastic jam and
butterportions.
✔ Hot water supply must be energy efficient, for
example from solar or gas geysers. The old-
fashioned donkey boiler is also still an option.
If above is not possible, at least install a heat
pump.
✔ It is essential to have an accessible, well-
stocked first aid kit/box, and key staff
membersmustbefirstaidtrained.
✔ Arrange for a local doctor on call.
