wildlife economy
Whereas there can be little doubt of government
support for the African wildlife economy (accompanied
by continued consumer demand for live game animals,
wildlife tourism, hunting opportunities, game meat and
other harvested wildlife products), wildlife ranchers and
managers cannot count on full support for all wildlife
product markets. As some industry participants have
learned the hard way, the market for selectively bred
game animals (e.g. colour variants) has its limits, the
market for rhino horn is constrained by global politics,
and markets for captive-bred lion products – and trophy
hunting in general – are also facing significant political
headwinds.
