other animals!”
Hi,Hayden!Haveyou
alwayslovedanimals?
Yes, I love animals! I have four
pets: a bearded dragon named
Chicken, a fish named Blue Angel,
a Doberman named Bowie and
our mutt, Sadie, who we rescued
two years ago from a shelter.
Did rescuing Sadie
inspire you to help
out other animals in
shelters?
Yeah, when we went to the
shelter to adopt a dog and ended
up getting Sadie, I saw so many
dogs there that were sad. It made
me want to do something to help
them out and cheer them up.
Whatdidyoudecide
to do to help out?
Last year, I started my own
recycling program called CBFS,
which stands for Collection Bottles
for Shelters. One day, I was at the
grocery store and I saw a sign that
said, “Recycle bottles for cash!”
When I saw that sign, I thought, I
can do that and raise money and
donate it to animals in need.
That’s amazing! Are you
the only one collecting
bottles for CBFS?
Some of my friends and family
started collecting bottles for me.
But since I wanted to collect even more
bottles, I had to get even more people
involved. I set up a collection bag in
each classroom at my school so kids
there could get involved and donate
water bottles, too!
What a great idea! How
many bottles have you’ve
collected since you started?
I’ve probably collected around 1,000
bottles so far! I collect them every day.
What happens after you’ve
collect them?
I recycle them and then I give that
money to my local animal shelter, the
East Valley Animal Shelter. They have
all kinds of animals there, like dogs and
cats and even hamsters and chickens!
The money helps the shelter pay for
food, toys for the animals to play with
and even animal beds.
His recycling program is
raising money for shelter pets!
