Santa Ana winds increase:Any low clouds and fog will quickly give way to sunshine today as Santa Ana
winds develop. High pressure sliding into the Great Basin will send wind gusts to 50-60 mph in the northeast-
to southwest-oriented passes and canyons of the Los Angeles and Ventura County mountains, with gusts to
40 mph in some of the adjacent valleys. The winds and dry air will elevate the fire risk.
East Coast rain:Rain will spread along most of the East Coast and
combine with areas of fog in the Northeast to slow travel. Dry weather
will return to the Midwest and will also span the Southwest and Plains.
A few snow showers will be scattered over the Rockies.
Coach Nick Saban of
No. 1 Alabama tested pos-
itive for the coronavirus just
days before the Iron Bowl
with No. 22 Auburn.
Team physician Dr.
Jimmy Robinson and head
trainer Jeff Allen said in a
joint statement that the pos-
itive test came Wednesday
morning.
“He has very mild symp-
toms, so this test will not be
categorized as a potential
false positive,” the state-
ment said. “He will follow all
appropriate guidelines and
isolate at home.”
The Crimson Tide is set
to face its biggest rival Sat-
urday at Bryant-Denny Sta-
dium without the 69-year-
old, six-time national cham-
pion coach. Offensive coor-
dinator Steve Sarkisian, a
former head coach at USC
and Washington, will over-
see preparations and over-
see the team on game day.
Saban said he has had a
runny nose but no major
symptoms.
The day after Minnesota
canceled its game against
Wisconsin because of a rise
of coronavirus infections
within the program, star
wide receiver Rashod Bate-
man announced that he was
ending his season early out
of concern for his health and
with an eye toward his NFL
career. He is widely proj-
ected as first-round draft
pick. ... Oklahoma’s game
against West Virginia was
postponed from Saturday to
Dec. 12 after the Sooners
paused organized team ac-
tivities because of recent
positive COVID-19 tests and
contact tracing.
Women’s soccer player
Sarah Fuller practiced with
the Vanderbilt football
team, and coach Derek Ma-
son said she’s a good option
to be the Commodores
kicker Saturday against
Missouri.
Mason said his Commo-
dores (0-7) are having health
issues with their specialists.
Vanderbilt has declined to
comment on any players
who’ve either tested positive
for COVID-19 or are in quar-
antine. Junior Pierson
Cooke is three for seven on
field-goal attempts.
Texas State defensive
back Khambrail Winters
was fatally shot in San Mar-
cos, Texas, and two men
were arrested and charged
in the killing, officials said.

Clippers target

guard Bowman

Former Golden State
guard Ky Bowman was close
to finalizing a deal to join the
Clippers, a person with
knowledge of the situation
said.
A 6-foot-1 guard, Bow-
man signed a two-way deal
with the Warriors last sea-
son after going undrafted
out of Boston College.
With Golden State he av-
eraged 7.4 points with 2.9 as-
sists and 2.7 rebounds in 45
games while shooting 41%
overall and 30% on three-
pointers.
His defense is considered
strong. Bowman was waived
Nov. 20.
The expected signing,
first reported by the Ath-
letic, will bring the number
of Clippers players under
contract — including those
currently on the roster and
others whose free-agent
deals have yet to be made of-
ficial — to 13, with two spots
still available.

Indianapolis, which was
scheduled to host NBA All-

Star weekend this upcoming
season, will instead host the
NBA All-Star weekend in
2024, the league said.
Cleveland will play host
in 2022 and Salt Lake City
will do so in 2023, both of
those sites and years previ-
ously announced.
The league said “public
health conditions prevented
the Pacers, the NBA All-Star
Host Committee and the
NBA from appropriately
planning and executing
fan-focused All-Star activ-
ities in Indianapolis that
were envisioned for this Feb-
ruary.”
The league said it was
planning to revise this sea-
son’s All-Star agenda, with
those plans still to be an-
nounced.

Liam Clark,the younger
brother of former UCLA
gymnast Mercedez San-
chez who inspired the team’s
childhood cancer awareness
meet last season, died Mon-
day after a fight with acute
myeloid leukemia. He was
2 years old.

After a positive co-
ronavirus test put its week-
end matchup with Colorado
in doubt, USC’s hopes of
playing Saturday are still in-
tact as public health officials
gave the team clearance to
resume football practice
Wednesday.
Another USC football
player has since tested
positive, while five others

were identified via tracing as
close contacts and are in
quarantine. But those seven
players, none of whom was
identified by USC, presum-
ably won’t put the Trojans
below any minimum thresh-
olds set by the Pac-12.
That could still change
ahead of Saturday, when
USC is scheduled to play
Colorado at the Coliseum in
a matchup of undefeated
Pac-12 South foes. In a state-
ment, USC said that the
status of the game, sched-
uled to begin at 12:30 p.m.,
remains “unchanged at this
time, pending further test-
ing.”
Testing will continue ev-
ery day until then, with an

additional round of PCR
tests on tap for Thursday.
Even if USC is cleared to
play, it could be without
those seven players for the
next two games.
Safety protocols call for
anyone within close contact
of someone who has tested
positive to quarantine for 14
days. USC is slated to play
Washington State on Dec. 3
in a matchup that’s already
seen its kickoff time ad-
justed to 6 p.m. to adhere to
the 10 p.m. curfew in Los An-
geles County.
The Cougars have had
their own issues with
COVID-19. Nine Washington
State football players re-
mained in quarantine as of

Tuesday, leading the Pac-12
to cancel its rivalry matchup
with Washington this week.
