  1. 3 Thesis Aim

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the plan and design a
modern SCADA system which connects power distribution substations in
Nineveh governorate. This investigation includes suggesting a cretin
planning procedure which is followed to build an efficient network using
modern wire and wireless technologies considering cost, performance, and
reliability.

1.4 Thesis Organization

The thesis is organized as follows:

Chapter One introduces literature review, aim and thesis organization.

Chapter Two gives an introduction to SCADA systems and modern
networking technologies, their types and components, Ethernet and WMNs
technologies.

Chapter Three presents planning, designing, and simulating of the modern
SCADA systems, introduction to power system, prim’s algorithm,
transmission media selection, and adding reliability methods to SCADA
systems.

Chapter Four presents practical implementation of the suggested SCADA
system using NI instruments, LabVIEW software, and Data Acquisition
Card (DAQ).

Chapter Five Summarizes the conclusions and the suggested future works.
