POLARPRO VARIABLE ND PETER

MCKINNON EDITION 2-5EV
http://www.polarprofilters.com

$249.99

Neutral density (ND) filters are essential for
videography if you want shoot at wide apertures
and keep your shutter speed down. However, it
can be a pain to keep whipping filters on and
off as the light changes. The solution is to use
a variable ND filters but some of them cause
serious vignetting and cross polarising artefacts
when they’re used with wide-angle lenses. The
PolarPro Variable ND Peter McKinnon Edition 2-5Ev
filter, however, keeps vignetting under control very well and
the filtration level adjustment stops before the notorious cross-
effect becomes visible. If you’re shooting a clear blue sky with a wide-angle
lens and 5Ev filtration, you’re likely to see some variation in tone, but it’s not bad.
In addition, the filter has a very slight warming effect, but it’s not unpleasant. If
you’re shooting scenes with lots of detail you’re unlikely to notice any flaws and
appreciate the ease of exposure control.

VANGUARD VEO

GO 34M

http://www.vanguardworld.com
£69.99 / $69.99

With external dimensions of 355
×130×250 (internal 340×105
×230mm), the Vanguard Veo
Go 34M is suitable for carrying
small mirrorless camera
systems. However, it has a neat
lower compartment that can
hold a tripod of up to 32.5cm in
length – ideal for the Veo 2 Go
235AB tripod also reviewed in
this issue. Alternatively, it can
be used to carry a telephoto
lens such as the Olympus M.
Zuiko 40-150mm f2.8 Pro, but
it’s bit snug for a full-frame
70-200mm f2.8 lens unless
you take off the lens hood and
tripod collar/foot.
Although it’s well made, the
Veo Go 34M’s construction is a
tad confusing. The tablet pouch,
for instance, has two large clips
that don’t secure it and they
look like the main compartment
opening. However, that’s
accessed via a zip on the other
side or a zip in the top flap.
