filtrationandwhicharenotpossible
tore-createinpost-production.Forexample,
thewaythatpolarisersremovesurfaceglare
andreflectionsorextendingshutterspeeds
withneutraldensityfilters.
Whenitcomestofilterstherearetwobasic
types:screwinfiltersorsquare,slot-infilters,
alsoknownas‘system’filters.Thelatterare
farmoreversatile,allowingyoutousethe
filterswithmultiplelenseswithdifferentfilter
threads,stacktwoorthreefilterswithlittle
riskofvignetting,andadjusttheheightof
graduatedfilters.
Filtersystemscompriseofthreeparts:
theadaptorring,whichscrewsintothefilter
thread,thefilterholder,whichattachesto
theringandthefilters.Theholderconsists
ofguiderailsintowhichyouslotthefilters
andtheremaybeone,twoorthreeslots
plustheabilitytoattachapolariser.Some
holders,suchasLEE’snew100mmsystem
holderallowyoutoquicklyandeasilychange
thenumberofguiderails,thoughgenerally
speakingthisisn’tsomethingyouwouldneed

The unfiltered shot looks dull and

FitapolariserAttachapolarisertothe
holder;withthenewLEEholder,thissimply
clipsontothefront.Topreventaccidents,do
thisbeforeattachingtheholdertothelens,
keepingeverythinghorizontal.2
AttachthefilterholderThe filter holder simply
clipsontothe ring, using the pin on the
side.Tolockthe holder into place so that you
don’taccidentally knock it off the lens, twist
thebluecollarbelow the pin.3
AdjustthepolariserThe new polariser has
ridges to make it easy to grip. While
looking through the viewfinder, rotate the filter.
You’ll see reflections come and go, so simply
