Fractional Exponents
Convert to a radical, in which the numerator becomes the power and
the denominator becomes the root.
xn/b= (b√x)n=b√xn
Highest common factor The biggest number that can be factored out of both the
numerator and the denominator.
Improper fraction The numerator is larger than the denominator.
Like fractions Fractions with the same denominator.
Lowest terms All common factors in both the numerator and denominator are
canceled.
Multiplying fractions
Multiply the numerators and multiply the denominators, then simplify the
terms.

Negative signs in fractions
The negative sign can be placed in either the numerator, the denominator, or in
front of the entire fraction. In any case, the fraction will have a negative value. For
example:





Numerator The number on the top, above the division line.
Proper fraction The numerator is smaller than the denominator.
