Fractions (continued)
Reciprocal
The numerator and denominator are inverted. For example:
Fraction Reciprocal
(^1) / 3 3 / 1
(^2) / 5 5 / 2
(^3) / 4 4 / 3
(^6) / 8 8 / 6
Subtracting fractions
If the denominators are the same, subtract the numerators.
If the denominators are different, convert the fractions to higher terms to give them
the same denominator, then subtract the fractions.
If the denominators are different and there are only two fractions to subtract, another
method is to multiply the numerator of each fraction by the denominator of each
fraction, andmultiply each of the denominators.
