CHARTS & TABLES Operations of Squares – P.E.M.D.A.S.

P.E.M.D.A.S.
The order of operations used to evaluate any expression is called
P.E.M.D.A.S. An easy way to remember the order of operations is
“Please Excuse MyDear Aunt Sally,” and it stands for doing the
math in this order:
Parentheses
Exponents
Multiplication
Division
Addition
Subtraction
It is important to remember to always do the multiplication and
division before doing any addition and subtraction, so when both
multiplication and addition are inside the parentheses, the
multiplication needs to be done first. Here is an example of an
expression evaluated using P.E.M.D.A.S.:
(8 + 3 ×5) – 4 ÷ 2

Parentheses:
(8 + 3× 5 )– 4 ÷ 2

Multiplication:
(8 + 3 ×5)– 4 ÷ 2
(8 + 15) – 4 ÷2

Addition:
(8 + 15)– 4÷2
(23) – 4 ÷ 2

Division:
(23) – 4 ÷2
(23) – 2

Subtraction:
(23) – 2 = 21

Operations of Squares
Multiplication

√–a×√–b =√–a×b

For example, √

  • 4 ×√

    • 9 =√– 4 ––×9 =√

      • 36

  • ab = √–a×√–b
    For example, √

  • 36 = √

  • 4 ×√

  • 9
    Addition
    √–a +√–a = 2√–a
