Making a caseWho do you think should win the court case in the following
scenario? Give reasons to support your answer.
Dream Ice Cream, a small natural foods company, makes organic ice cream products. To ensure
its image as a “natural” food company, Dream Ice Cream advertises that it does not use milk
containing genetically engineered hormones, and it includes this information on its labels.
The government passes a law forbidding advertising that directly or indirectly opposes GE
products, and Dream Ice Cream is ordered to remove all labels from its products or pay a
heavy ine.
Dream Ice Cream decides to take its case to court and argues that it has the right to
advertise that its products are safe. The government’s regulatory agency argues that GE
products have not been proven unsafe and that Dream Ice Cream is guilty of unfair
advertising.
