Make Bar Graphs

Henry displayed the data at the
right in a horizontal bar graph.

To make a horizontal bar graph:
Draw horizontal and vertical axes
on grid paper.

Use the data from the table to choose
an appropriate scale. (The data range
from 26 to 82. Choose intervals of 10.)

Draw and label the scale along the
horizontal axis. Start at 0 and
label equal intervals.

Label the vertical axis. List
the name of each dinosaur.

Draw horizontal bars to
represent each length.
Make the bars of equal
width.

Write a title for your graph.

To make a vertical bar graph, place the scale along the
vertical axis and the items along the horizontal axis.

Solve.Use the bar graph above.

  1. What data are along the vertical 2. Which dinosaurs have lengths
axis? the horizontal axis? between 30 and 40 feet?

  2. Make a horizontal or vertical bar graph using the data
on lengths of dinosaurs. Change the scale to represent
    20-ft intervals.

Albertosaurus 26 ft
Allosaurus 36 ft
Brachiosaurus 52 ft
