THE STORY OF AN HOUR
BY KATE CHOPIN
Kate Chopin (1850-1904) may be considered a
forerunner of feminist fiction that gained wider
attention well after her death. Chopin is also an early
voice in the modern Southern literary tradition, as
many of her stories take place in Louisiana. “The
Story of an Hour” is her most famous work of short
fiction, and her novel The Awakening is still widely
read today.
