THE JILTING OF GRANNY
WEATHERALL
BY KATHERINE ANNE PORTER
Katherine Anne Porter (1890-1980) published the
best-selling novel Ship of Fools, but is better
remembered for her short fiction. Porter turned to
writing after spending two years as a patient in a
sanatorium recovering from tuberculosis. Distantly
related to both Daniel Boone and O. Henry, Porter
became a public intellectual, appearing on radio and
television to discuss her writing or classic works of
literature.
