Definition: Presage means   to  know    (sage)  something   before  (pre-)  it  happens;    to
foreshadow. It suggests an omen or warning sign.

Sentence:   The team’s  devastating loss    on  homecoming  weekend presaged    the rest
of the season; they finished last in the league.
