  1. (D) Risk assessment is the process of quantifying the probability of a
harmful effect. In most countries, the approval of certain pesticides,
industrial chemicals, power plants, and so on is not allowed unless it can be
demonstrated through risk assessment that they do not increase the risk,
death, or illness above a certain level. Educating the public is not part of risk
assessment. That is left up to the media, public interest groups, and special
    interest groups.
