- (C) Ozone is produced by oxygen and sunlight in the UVC wavelength
range (<240 nm). In the atmosphere, this reaction works only at higher
altitudes where there is adequate high-energy UV penetration. The atomic
oxygen so formed can combine with oxygen gas (O 2 ) to form ozone (O 3 ).
