  1. (D) About 38% of municipal solid waste (before recycling) by weight is
    paper and paper products. About 90% of paper is made of wood and
    accounts for about 35% of felled trees. Trees grown specifically for paper
    production account for 16% of all trees commercially grown and 9% of old
    growth forests. The manufacture and use of recycled paper products results
    in 35% less water pollution and 74% less air pollution than producing paper
    from trees.
