  1. (A) In landmasses influenced by polar cells, temperature rather than
    precipitation is the critical factor in plant distribution and soil development.
    Landmasses in equatorial regions primarily influenced by Hadley cells are
    characterized by high humidity and lots of precipitation (e.g., tropical
    rainforests). Subtropical landmasses primarily influenced by Hadley cells
    are characterized by low relative humidity and deserts.
