- (E) In 1979, a minor malfunction occurred in the system that fed water to
the steam generators at the Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station
near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. This event eventually led to the most serious
commercial nuclear accident in U.S. history and caused fundamental
changes in the way nuclear power plants were operated and regulated.
Despite the severity of the damage, no injuries due to radiation occurred.
