Prove It
A game designed to build the concept of partial quotients

Materials:

Q^ Three blue dice (labeled 1–6)
Q^ Two yellow dice (labeled 1–6)
Q^ Dry erase boards and marker
(or paper and pencil) for each team
Q^ 2-minute timer

Directions:

  1. The fi rst team rolls all three blue dice. The team arranges the
dice in any way to show the 3-digit number that will serve as the
    dividend.

  2. The other team rolls both yellow dice. The team arranges the dice
in any way to show the 2-digit number that will serve as the
    divisor.

  3. The timer is set. All teams write the division problem on dry
erase boards and work together to solve the equation using partial
    quotients.

  4. Any team that correctly solves the equation using partial
quotients in under two minutes earns points for the round.
The quotient tells how many points are earned for the round.

  5. Before erasing boards for the next round, players must prove their
use of partial quotients, compare answers, and discuss which
partial quotients were used and why.

  6. Teams keep a running total of points earned. After ten rounds, the
team with the most points wins.
