178 Multiplication and Division Concepts

That’s It
A game designed to build the concept of equal products

Materials:
Q^ 15–95 Spinner copied on yellow paper,
paper clip
Q^ 2–18 Spinner copied on pink paper,
paper clip
Q^ Timer and calculator

Directions:

  1. The fi rst player spins the yellow spinner to fi nd the multiplicand
and spins the pink spinner to fi nd the multiplier.

  2. The player states the multiplication equation while the other
player starts the timer. The player doubles the multiplicand,
halves the multiplier, and states the equal products. For example
    the player says, “45 x 4 = 90 x 2. That’s it! 180.”

  3. The other player stops the timer. The number of seconds is
recorded as the player’s score. Players keep a running total
    throughout the game.

  4. After each player has one turn the round is complete. After each
round, the spinners alternate. The pink spinner is the
multiplicand and the yellow spinner is the multiplier.

  5. Players take turns spinning, creating, and stating equal products,
timing each other, and verifying answers with the calculator.

  6. The winner is the player with the lowest score after ten rounds.

Content Differentiation:
