Which Place is Best?
A game designed to build the
concept of thousands and millions
Materials:
Q Place Value Frame for each player
Q Die (labeled 1–6 or 0–9)
Q Pencil or pen for each player
Q File folder for each player
Directions:
- The fi rst player rolls the die. All players write this number
in any one of the spaces on their place value frames. Play-
ers use the fi le folders to keep the other players from see-
ing where they placed the digit. Once a number is placed,
it cannot be moved. - Players take turns rolling the die and placing digits in ei-
ther the fi rst number or the second number until all of the
sections are fi lled. - Players lift the fi le folders to reveal their numbers. Players
read and compare the numbers. The player with the larg-
est fi rst number earns 1,000,000 points. The player with the
largest second number earns 1,000,000 points. - Play continues with players accumulating points until the
winning player earns 10,000,000 points!
Content Differentiation:
Moving Back: Use fewer sections in the place value frames.
Moving Ahead: Include a decimal point somewhere on each
place value frame.
