GCF Hopscotch
A game designed to build the concept
of finding common factors

Materials:

Q Two sets of GCF Numeral Cards
Q Pawn for each player
Q GCF Hopscotch Game Board
Q GCF Hopscotch Spinner, paper clip

Directions:

  1. Place pawns in the start position. Mix each set of GCF numeral
cards and place cards face-down in two piles.

  2. The fi rst player spins the spinner to fi nd out if she will have a
turn. For the fi rst move, if the spinner lands on “Common fac-
tors (not the greatest)” the player misses the turn. If the spinner
lands on “Greatest common factor” the player chooses one nu-
meral card from each pile and fl ips both cards over. If the player
names the correct GCF, she moves the pawn to the fi rst space on
    the Hopscotch game board.

  3. The next player takes a turn.

  4. To make the second move on the Hopscotch board the player
has to spin “Common factors (not the greatest).” To move to this
position, the player must name two common factors that are not
the greatest. If it is not possible to name two common factors
that are not the greatest the player misses the turn.

  5. Players continue taking turns, naming common factors, and
moving their pawns on the game board. The winner is the fi rst
player to reach the top of the Hopscotch game board.
