  1. I would like to travel to seattle in the northwest on my next vacation.

  2. My friend just visited the eiffel tower in paris.

  3. Not too many people can tell you about the war of the roses, a civil war that
    took place in england from 1455–1487.

  4. I asked if he, a baptist, was really considering studying buddhism as i had
    heard.

  5. He said he didn’t think it mattered by which name he referred to the
    supreme deity—christ, allah, or buddha.


MORE RULES OF CAPITALIZATION



  1. Capitalize the fi rst word of a direct quotation.
    My son asked, “Will you buy me a guitar for my birthday?”

  2. In a broken quotation, capitalize the fi rst word in the second part of the
    quotation only if it starts a new sentence.
    “I’ll start the meeting,” she said, “if you will fi nish it after lunch.”
    “I’ll start the meeting,” she said. “You can fi nish it after lunch.” (You
    starts a new sentence.)

  3. Do not capitalize the report of something said.
    My son asked if I would buy him a guitar for his birthday.
