On August 12, 1990, Typhoon Winona, combined withthe summer vacation rush, created the longest trafficjam in Japan's history, an 84-mile long tailbackinvolving about 15,000 vehicles.

The same family has occupied theImperial Throne of Japan for thelast 1300 years. The present-dayemperor, Akihito, is the 125thin succession.

The longest bridge in the world is the Akashi KaikyoBridge linking Honshu and Shikoku, with a centralspan of 6352 ft (1991 m); the total length shore toshore is 12,831 ft (3911 m), or 2.4 miles (3.9 km).
