The Great Salt Lake is a remnant of the
prehistoric Lake Bonneville, which once
covered almost 20,000 square miles
(51,800 sq km) of western Utah.

The world’s largest
known organism is a
100 acre (43 hectare)
grove of aspen trees
in Utah. Derived from
a single tree, it contains
over 47,000 stems
and weighs over
6000 tons (tonnes).

At 20,016 ft (6104 m),
or almost 4 miles (6 km)
in length, the Fort Peck
Dam is the largest earth-
filled hydraulic dam in
the United States.
