other themes, the writer first broadens the scope and then zeros in on her main
idea, ending with an application of the theme to contemporary society.

ideas.
-^ Effective transitions help readers move smoothly within as well as between
paragraphs.
Note that the social science book report follows the same organization and structure
as did the English book report. The difference comes from the choice of subject mat-
ter for discussion. As always, the subject matter must relate to the content area of
the course for which the report is being prepared.
