2.11. Oblique Asymptotes http://www.ck12.org

Find the equation of the oblique asymptote for each of the following rational functions. If there is not an oblique
asymptote, explain why not and give an equation of the backbone of the function if one exists.

9.f(x) =xx (^23) −− 27 xx−− 156
10.g(x) =xx (^4) −^3 − 37 x 2 x−−^610
11.h(x) =xx^22 ++ 25 xx++^61
12.k(x) =x^4 +^9 xx^32 ++^212 xx+^2 − 1 x−^30

  1. Create a function with an oblique asymptotes aty= 2 x−1, a vertical asymptote atx=3 and a hole wherexis

  2. Create a function with an oblique asymptote aty=x, vertical asymptotes atx= 1 ,−3 and no holes.

  3. Does a parabola have an oblique asymptote? What about a cubic function?
